Fay Izella Zaha March 27, 1916 - December 4, 2018
Our precious Mom, Fay Zaha, age 92, fell gently asleep on December 4, 2018 at home, succumbing to dementia. Mom was born to Selby and Ida Hoenshell in Owosso, Michigan, joining four older siblings; Earl, Iola, Retha, and Arlene. She graduated from East Detroit High School in 1943 and attended Wayne University, Detroit, majoring in Nursing. She withdrew from nursing school to marry a handsome young Army-Air Force pilot, our Dad, Ted Zaha, in February 1944. Together they had us; their son, Bob, and their daughter, Lynn Nicolay. Dad unfortunately passed away 12 years ago. As a military wife she moved with Dad to various assignments; Philippines, Florida, Hawaii, New Jersey, eventually retiring to Southern California for a number of years before locating to the Grand Valley in 1995. Mom worked as head cashier for Sears in San Bernardino, California, for a number of years before she and Dad opened up and operated a donut/sandwich shop in Redlands, California, for several years. Mom was a compassionate, gracious woman, who loved her family and cherished friendships. Besides her son and daughter, she has three grandchildren, Jere, Marc, and Lesli; and six greatgrandchildren, Nathan, Natalie, Lila, Genevieve, Braden, and Kalia. Those who preceded her in death are her beloved husband, Ted, and each of her siblings. Services will be December 28, 2018, at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary followed by internment at the VA Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be given to HopeWest Hospice, 3090B N. 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506, or American Bible Society, PO Box 96812, Washington DC 20090-6812.
