Loris McDaniel July 10, 1939 - December 6, 2018
Loris Dean McDaniel, 79, of Eaton, passed away December 6, 2018. He was born July 10, 1939, in Palisade, CO to Lloyd and Arlene Ramey McDaniel. Loris graduated from Grand Junction High School, and Mesa College in 1959. He attended CU and CSU, graduating in 1969, with a Civil Engineering degree. He worked as a draftsman/surveyor for the cities of Grand Junction and Boulder, and the engineering firm, Hogan & Associates, in Loveland. After graduation, he joined Stone & Webster Engineering in various field construction positions as Professional Engineer and Manager until retirement in 2007. Assignments included construction of power plants in Washington, Virginia, Nevada, Wyoming, Missouri, Michigan, Georgia, Colorado, Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii and Ghana, Africa. He was also Site Manager for El Paso Merchant Energy in Florida for two power plants. Most of the 18 years prior to retirement was spent in the Hawaiian Islands as Construction Manager. After retirement, Loris and Kay traveled the U.S. with a fifth wheel camper and enjoyed wintering in AZ, golfing and going to CO Rockies spring training in Scottsdale. Loris was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, L Kay McDaniel of Eaton; brother, Gordon (Kathleen) McDaniel of Overland Park, KS; children, Lori Bassow, Davenport, IA; Kenneth (Robin) McDaniel, Surprise, AZ, and Kathleen (Michael) McMahan, Eaton, CO; grandchildren, Whitney (Jeff) Linnberg, Blue Grass, IA; Justin (Allyson) Bailey, Blue Grass, IA; Jaime Bassow, Davenport, IA; Brittany (Bryan) Williams, Leesburg, VA; Marie Nicole and Katherine McDaniel of Surprise, AZ, and Teage, Camden and Breck McMahan of Eaton, CO. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Maximus and Bryce Bailey, Arthur, Arlene and Bailey Linnberg, and Abigail Williams.
