James Richard Walton, 79, Palisade, died Oct. 19, 2018, at HopeWest Hospice Care Center. Services will be planned at a later date. He was a truck driver. Survivors include two sons, Paul of Collbran and Richard of Palisade; three daughters, Shelly Davlin of Midland, Texas, Sheila Williams of Clifton and Stephanie May, of Basin, Wyoming; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. James Richard Walton September 18, 1939 - October 19, 2018
James Richard Walton passed away peacefully at HopeWest, surrounded by his loved ones, on October 19, 2018; he was 79. He was born and raised in Palisade, CO, by Raymond and Peggy Walton. He graduated in 1957 from Palisade High School. That same year he entered the US Marine Corps, then attended Mesa College for a time. Richard married Barbara Hope Lewis on January 31, 1964, in Pocatello, ID. They raised five kids in Palisade. As a family they loved camping, fishing and hunting. Richard enjoyed snowmobiling, woodworking and won several awards for his bead work. He made his living as a truck driver working for companies such as Blackline, and GMCO, and owned his own business, Walton Trucking. The family also opened Rosie’s Restaurant in Palisade in 1985. He joined the Grand Junction Elks Lodge #575 in the late 1970’s. Richard was very active in the lodge; promoted through all the offices, and was also the club manager for a time. Richard and Barbara traveled with the Elks to Germany, Alaska, and Hawaii. They enjoyed traveling. He will be missed by his children, Shelley Davlin, Paul (Thena) Walton, Sheila (Michael) Williams, Stephanie (Russell) May and Richard Walton. He had 13 grandchildren and 19 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; parents, Raymond and Peggy; sister, LeeAnn, and granddaughter, Connie Murillo. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, November 24, at 1:00 in building #C at the Mesa County Fairgrounds. Memorial contributions can be made in Richard’s name to HopeWest Hospice.
