Funeral services were held Wednesday for Ruth Arline Virden, 77, longtime McCoy area resident, who died Aug. 1 in Bond.

Born May 19, 1915, to Charles Earl Adams and Inez Riggs in Sidney, Colo., Arline spent most of her childhood at Cow Creek near Steamboat Springs.

She married Slats Virden on May 24, 1932. They spent their lives ranching and raising a family of six children.

Her last 48years were spent in the McCoy community. She enjoyed wildflowers and nature, embroidery, and antique bottle hunting. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Edith Chapter 61 of Yampa.

Arline was preceded in death by her husband Slats Virden, two daughters Jolene Virden and Dorothy Weldon.

She is survived by one brother, Louis Adams of Hobbs, New Mexico; sons Jack Virden of Craig and Frank Virden of Rock Springs, Wyo.; daughters Ruby Forster of McCoy and Inez Baldwin of Creighton, Neb. Eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren also survive.

Pastor Bob Parker officiated at funeral services held Aug. 4 at the McCoy Community Church. Burial followed at the McCoy Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Harold Virden, Courtney Virden, Jake Virden, Marty Forster, Lew Weldon and Ward Baldwin. Clint Forster served as honorary pallbearer.

Shearon Funeral Home in Steamboat Springs was in charge of arrangements.
