Anita Mae (Wilson) Daily November 13, 1921 - November 6, 2018
Anita Mae Daily passed away peacefully in her sleep, with family by her side, on November 6, 2018. She was born on November 13, 1921, in Grand Junction, Colorado, to Leander William Wilson and Bernice Estella (Rawlings) Wilson. She spent her childhood in Grand Junction and her first home was on Chipeta Avenue, moving to Ute Avenue, and then Colorado Avenue, where she loved to climb trees, play baseball and football, ride bikes, and roller skate with the neighborhood children. She attended Emerson Grade School, Grand Junction Junior High School, and graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1939. She attended Mesa Junior College and graduated in 1941, with a degree in teaching, spending her junior year at Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado, where she was a member of Tri Sigma Sorority and remained involved all her life. She met the love of her life, James Leon Daily, and they were married on June 21, 1942, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grand Junction. He was a Navy pilot during WWII and they lived and raised their family of six children, being stationed in different places across the United States. They loved genealogy and travelled and researched family, publishing several books during their 52 years of marriage. Anita loved league bowling, playing bridge, and golf and played until she was 86 years old. Her pride and joy was her family, and as a devoted mother, she lovingly stayed home and raised all of them, sometimes by herself when Leon was gone for long periods of time out of the country. Anita is preceded in death by her husband, Leon; her parents, and siblings, Rollin Wilson, Doris Goodwin, and Verna Lee Wilson. She is survived by her children, Janice (Wallace) Butler, Sharon (Joe) Brown, James (Margaret) Daily, Patrick (Debra) Daily, Kathleen (Greg) Monger, and Michael (Sheree) Daily; 15 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. Graveside inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. A memorial celebration will be held in the spring. The family would like to thank HopeWest Hospice for their loving care during her last few days. Memorial donations may be made to HopeWest Hospice, 3090B N. 12th St., Grand Junction, CO 81506 or to Grand Valley Catholic Outreach, 245 S. 1st St., 81501.
