Muriel Myers, 89, Grand Junction, died Nov. 16, 2018, at her home. Services will be at a later date. She was a professor. Survivors include two sons, Jeff Uhrlaub of Lakewood and Randy Uhrlaub of Dallas; one brother, Jim Willis of San Diego; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Muriel Myers January 7, 1929 - November 16, 2018
Muriel L. Myers, 89, of Grand Junction passed away in her home on November 16, 2018. She was born January 7, 1929, in Paonia, Colorado and graduated from Paonia High School in 1947. She attended Western State College, Gunnison and received her doctorate from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1980. Muriel taught high school in Collbran, worked as a court reporter in Denver, and then taught business at Colorado Mesa University from 1970 to 1994 before retiring. Muriel served as President of the League of Women Voters and belonged to Delta Kappa Gamma, Society for Human Resource Professionals, Soroptimist, and the 2001 Women’s Investment Club. Muriel married Jerry Uhrlaub with whom she had two sons, Jeff and Randy. She later married Alvin Myers in 1976. Muriel and Alvin loved riding motorcycles in the mountains, skiing at Powderhorn, and water skiing and house boating on the infamous Holey Scow at Lake Powell. Muriel and Alvin traveled the US, Mexico, and Europe and spent six months in Australia where Muriel taught at Charles Stuart University. She enjoyed reading books and was a member of several book clubs. She loved music starting as a child and taught and played the piano, organ, and violin. She was an avid gardener and won Yard of the Month awards for her extensive garden twice. She never stopped exploring new knowledge and experiences; recently she was learning chess, reading local history, and taking on-line courses in physics. Muriel is survived by sons, Jeff Uhrlaub of Lakewood, Colorado and Randy Uhrlaub of Dallas, Texas; step-son, Mitch Myers of Valley Springs, California; brother, Jim Willis of San Diego, California; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and eight nieces and nephews. A memorial service is being held at First Presbyterian Church, 3940 27 1/2 Rd., on Saturday, November 24th at 4:00 p.m. The family committal service is being held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado on Monday, November 26th. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in Muriel’s name, may be sent to the Colorado Mesa University Emeriti and Retired Staff Scholarship fund at the Colorado Mesa University Foundation, 1450 North 12th Street, Grand Junction, Colorado, 81501.
