Edwin Arthur Woodward February 14, 1941 - November 18, 2018
Edwin "Ed" Woodward passed away peacefully, from ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease, at HopeWest Hospice surrounded by loved ones, on November 18, 2018. He was 77. He was born on February 14, 1941 in his grandmother’s home to Charles "Bud" Woodward and Beatrice Craddock Woodward, and was raised on a peach orchard on the Redlands. He attended Grand Junction High School, and enlisted in the Air Force serving three years as a medic at Sembach Air Base, Germany. Ed obtained his degree in Accounting from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, CA, and became a Certified Public Accountant. He married Sandra Baratta, and their union produced four children. They later divorced. In the early 1980’s, Ed relocated to California, where he pursued his accounting career with a focus on non-profits. He was an avid bowler and member of a bowling club where he met is second wife, Sharon Grantham. They married in December 1990. Upon retirement in 2006, they relocated to Grand Junction. He became a volunteer with RSVP, delivering meals for Gray Gourmet to Collbran and Debeque, and volunteering as a tax preparer for the Tax-Aide program. Ed enjoyed bowling with Sharon at Orchard Mesa Lanes, where they met Diane Dunham and Fred Achierno and their respective spouses, Bob and Corby. Ed taught his friends the strategy game "Joker" and the three couples became avid players. They enjoyed many a Saturday night of spirited competition of husbands vs. wives. He was an avid player of the game "Sparta" on facebook, and enjoyed the occasional round of golf. Ed maintained a long-standing relationship with Leon Ebright, whom he met in high school. Leon and his wife Anita frequently joined Ed and Sharon for dinner and conversation whenever the Ebright’s were visiting from Canada. Ed cherished his friendships with Les and Caroline Lettau, whom he met in California, and who introduced him & Sharon to "Joker." Ed & Les were in weekly contact through their mutual interest in "Sparta". His days of bowling, golf and exploring Grand Mesa and other scenic areas of Western Colorado in his ’69Ford Bronco ended when ALS robbed him of the use of his arms and hands. He was lovingly cared for by his wife of 28 years and the wonderful caregivers at HopeWest Hospice. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Hazel; and brother, Donald Muender. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Rebecca (Johnny) Henschel, Charles (Sandra) Woodward, Richard (Jacquelin) Woodward, and Jonathan (Elizabeth) Woodward; and beloved dog Moose. He had six grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place under the guidance of Brown’s Cremation Service. No services are planned. His ashes will be scattered on Grand Mesa at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to HopeWest Hospice, 3090 N. 12th St., Unit B, Grand Junction, CO 81506 or the ALS Association at www.alsa.org.
