Charlie died peacefully on June 26, 2019. He was born in Burr Oak, KS, on December 15, 1933, the oldest of five children born to Willis and Helen Trussell. Charlie was valedictorian of his graduating class of 1951, at Stella High School, Stella, NE. He continued his education at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and became a CPA in 1958. He was united in marriage to Carol Calkins in 1954 at the Strand Lutheran Church near her parent’s farm near Corning, IA. He enjoyed a long management career in retailing as VPPlanning and VP-Operations for a major retail conglomerate and as President and CEO of a 100-unit department store chain. He was always active in business development in the communities where he lived starting as a Jaycee when he was young and moving on to Chambers of Commerce and Economic development organizations in cities where he and his family lived during his working career. In 1996, he and Carol retired to Grand Junction, CO. After retirement he volunteered as a Certified Business Counselor at the Small Business Development Center and was an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church. He and Carol enjoyed living on the Western Slope of Colorado and spent time at the local fitness center along with camping, fishing, and playing golf. They usually spent a couple of months in the winter enjoying the sunshine in the southwest. Charles is survived by his children, Tony (Deanne) Trussell of Sioux Falls, SD; Susan Trussell of St. Louis Park, MN; Robert (Caitlin) Trussell of Lakewood, CO, and Kay (Paul) Brooks of Athens, GA; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. No services will be held at this time. A family service is planned at a later date. Condolences may be posted online at memorial.yourtribute.com (Charles Trussell) or mailed to Tony Trussell at 4424 W. Kinsley Pl., Sioux Falls, SD 57108. Charles and Carol requested all memorials be given to First Presbyterian Church.
