Jean Ann Stutler September 15, 1930 - September 1, 2019 Jean Ann Stutler, 88, passed away peacefully at the Villas Assisted Living and Memory Care in Green Valley, Arizona, on September 1, 2019. Jean was born on September 15, 1930, in Grand Junction, Colorado, to John “Jack” and Edith Naeve. She attended schools in Palisade and Fruita and graduated from Fruita Union High School in 1949. She also attended Mesa Junior College. On September 17, 1950, Jean married Roy Eugene (Roy Gene) Stutler. They were preparing for their 50th wedding anniversary when Roy Gene passed away on July 13, 2000. In her younger years, Jean worked many jobs including packing peaches in Palisade. In 1948, as a representative of the Enterprise District, she was elected Queen of the Highway 6 & 50 celebration (the newly constructed Fruita highway). Sixty years later she proudly rode in the Fall Festival parade to commemorate the anniversary of the event. She worked as a telephone operator for Mountain Bell when you could actually talk to an operator. As she raised her children, she worked for various businesses including Grand Junction Livestock Auction, Fruita Realty, and the Mesa County School District. Together with her friends, Earlynne Barcus and Elaine Tufly, she established a tax preparation business which endured in various forms for many years. Even into her eighties she brokered water shares and worked for her friend, Jimmie, as bookkeeper at Flowers by Jimmie. Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She was fiercely proud of her family. Jean was always known for her quick wit and laugh. She could always be counted on to go the extra mile for her family and friends. Jean is survived by sons, Larry (Lea) of Green Valley, Arizona and Jim (Chris) of Morrison, Colorado; grandchildren, Sarah (Chad), Tobin (Rachel), Bethany, Lisa, and Dave (Eric); greatgrandchildren, Adison, Orion and Lucas, as well as many other family members and friends. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Gene; parents, and siblings, Lyle Naeve, Florence Fisher, and Ethel English. Graveside services will be held at New Elmwood Cemetery, Fruita, CO on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. A gathering will follow at the Clubhouse at The Village at Country Creek, 1136 Periwinkle Lane, Fruita, CO at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HopeWest Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
