Gerald Benjamin “Jerry” Booth April 10, 1937 ~ May 4, 2020
in Bay City, MI April 10, 1937 to Clarence Booth and Lucille Bartlett and passed away at his home in Grand Junction, CO May 4, 2020. Jerry ‘s father left for World War II and his mother Lucille worked at a factory manufacturing fighter plane parts for the war effort leaving a young Jerry Booth to be raised by his Grandma Lambert and his Uncle Ben Lambert. Jerry spent the first ten years or so of his life in their loving household learning to hunt and fish and the importance of a quality education. Jerry graduated from Tandy High School in Bay City, MI and attended General Motors Institute of Technology in Flint, MI for 2 years at the insistence of his Uncle Ben. Upon graduating Jerry enlisted in the Air Force, stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver. He spent the next four years there teaching pilots on the instruments and gunnery control in fighter planes. After being honorably discharged from the service he enrolled in Denver University obtaining a degree in Mathematical Engineering. Taking a job with TCI in Denver, CO. as a technical writer for clients such as Boeing and General Motors. Having the desire to be in a location where hunting and fishing was abundant, he moved to the small community of Yampa, CO., working as a delivery driver for Ferrell Gas. Having military experience when a job opening became available with the Yampa Police department, he was a great fit. He prided himself on the fact he chose to police with kindness, often helping rebellious youngsters with difficult weekend decisions. Eventually he moved on and was hired by Energy Fuels. Working from the bottom up when the surface mine operation concluded, he was a foreman for the tipple and coal hauler crews. From there he moved to Grand Junction and was employed by Grand Mesa Marine. It was in Grand Junction where he rekindled his friendship with Phyllis Moore. Eventually getting married April 24, 1994. Feeling the need to get home closer to aging parents Jerry and Phyllis moved back to Hayden, CO, Phyllis regained employment with Twentymile Coal. Being responsible for the IT department for both Twentymile and Shoshone mines. Leading Jerry and Phyllis to the lovely town of Saratoga, WY, investing in a second home there. Jerry spent countless hours hunting and fishing in both Colorado and Wyoming. His yard in Saratoga, WY was often filled with mule deer. Jerry grew to be quite fond of the deer and had names for all of them. You often would hear a tap tap on the sliding glass door only to find one of his favorite bucks knocking on the door wanting a nibble of corn. Jerry also filled his days listening to bluegrass music, his love of bluegrass music triggered a hobby of playing banjo. He had a group of friends that would gather often to play. He also had a love of firearms and building custom longbows even attending longbow competitions multiple times a year. Jerry is survived by his wife Phyllis Moore, three step siblings Keith (Connie) Bartlett, Bruce Bartlett, Bonnie (Marvin) Franklin, one niece and one nephew. Three step daughters Jennifer (Ryan) Holmlund, Cynthia Kline, Katina Kline (Rob Rowe). Four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Jerry was preceded in death by his first wife LaDonna, his father Clarence Booth, his mother Lucille Bartlett, his stepfather Sandy Bartlett, his Grandma Lambert and his uncle Ben Lambert. A graveside service will be held at The Hayden Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to American Legion Post #89 in care of Grant Mortuary.
