Dorothy Marie Hayes passed away peacefully on 8/22/20. She was born 8/19/1937 in Hayden, CO to Grant & Nell Simonton. Dotty married her high school sweetheart and one true love, Jay Hayes in December of 1956. She lived a long, full and beautiful life; always making those around her feel loved. Dotty was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Grandma and Great Grandma. Dotty raised her kids with humanity, empathy and respect. Upholstery, sewing, rock hunting and making muck lucks were just a few of her loves. She knew no fear, was resilient, determined, strong and the perfect example of grit and grace. Dotty was a fabulous cook who could make and stretch a meal for whoever showed up hungry and made fried potatoes which she will forever be famous for. No matter how hard anyone tries they never taste the same. She always had a way of making others feel at home. Throughout the years she and Jay shared their home with others in a time of need. They provided a roof and a hot meal without question or judgement until they could get on their feet. Dotty will forever be remembered by her kind and loving ways. She never met a stranger and would always lend a helping hand along with a contagious smile. Her door was always open with a hot cup of coffee. We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Dotty in her 83 years. Always, treat others with nothing but kindness. Ivory soap makes the best dish soap. You can never have enough turquoise. Antiques Road Show is the best show. Hunt for a bargain and never pass up a good yard sale. Most importantly you are never too old to roller blade. Dotty is survived by her loving husband Jay. Daughter Rebecca (Clint) Overstreet- Grandchildren Kelsi Overstreet & Tucker Overstreet. Wendy (Dirk) Kenney. Doyle (Dalene) Hayes – Grandchildren Shayna (Jimmy) Brach, Luke Hayes – Great Grandchildren Jax & Joel Brach. Jay II (Diane) Hayes – Grandchildren Alec, Jay III, Jackson – Great Grandchild Isabella Hayes. There are no services planned at this time. Celebration of life will be planned at a later date. Instead of flowers, do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness in Dorothy’s name.
