Mrs. Mary Emma Thomas, 72, a longtime resident of the Eagle area, died Friday.
Mary Emma Fenno was born July 6, 1905, at Leadville. Her parents moved to Squaw Creek near Eagle to homestead in 1910, and she graduated from Western State College in Gunnison with a B.A. in English. Following graduation she taught school a year in Crawford.
On Sept, 15, 1929, she married Clifford Thomas. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas operated the Edwards Store and Post Office, which they sold in 1946. At that time they operated their own ranch in Edwards. Following the death of her husband in 1956, Mrs. Thomas moved to Eagle where she taught at the Wolcott School for a year. She later worked at the Post Office in Eagle for nine years until her retirement.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Eagle.
Survivors: sister Ida May Bearden of Burns; niece: Edith Lederhause of the Eagle area; and nephews, Ross Bearden, Louis William Fenno, John Charles Fenno and Clifford H. Fenno, all of the Eagle area. Farnum Richardson Mortuary.
