GYPSUM WOMAN DIES IN ONE-CAR ACCIDENT MONDAY
---
A 63-year-old Gypsum woman died in a one-car auto accident along Interstate 70 just east of Eagle Monday.
Cornelia Tielenburg (Kuhr) as killed when her vehicle veered off the highway and crashed into an abandoned pickup trick. The car spun around 360 degrees and ended up in the fast lane of eastbound I-70. The victim was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
According to Corp. Rick Romines of the Colorado State Patrol, investigators are puzzled about what caused the accident.
"It was a straight road there," he noted. Additionally, weather conditions were not adverse and the pickup truck was parked well off the side of the road. Romines did note, ironically, he had red-tagged the abandoned vehicle Monday morning, only hours before the accident.
Following the crash, I-70 eastbound was closed at Eagle for nearly two hours. "It was closed for quite a while because we had a lot of investigation and there was stuff all over the interstate," he remarked.
The accident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m.
Tielenburg had resided in Eagle County since 1978. For the past 16 years, she worked as a cashier at the Avon City Market.
