Denver Post - 2002

Warren L. Tomlinson, after living a full life, passed away quietly last Friday morning. Raised on the western slope of Colorado he strayed to Greenwich Village and Europe before returning and spending most of his life in Denver. Warren graduated from the University of Denver (1951), where he was Phi Beta Kappa, before moving on to New York School of Law (1954) where he was managing editor of the NYU Law Review. He then spent time in Germany as a JAG Officer in the U.S. Army. Life in Denver was shaped by his work with the Holland and Hart Law Firm. At various times he served as Managing Partner, a member of the Management Committee, and Chairman of the Labor Law Department. After 37 years with the law firm, he retired in 1994. Since retiring he served with his partner John Dunn as a mediator in Eagle and Summit counties and as the President of the Grassy Creek Coal Company. The last five years he spent time in Vail, Colorado and Tucson, Arizona. His seasonal migration south coinciding with elimination of the Bronco's from the playoffs. Warren was an active member of the American, Colorado, and Denver Bar Associations, serving as chairman of the Law Practice Management Section of the ABA. He was a Founding Trustee and Fellow of the College of Law Practices Management. He had also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the University of Denver Alumni Association. Warren is survived by his wife Linda; his daughter Stephanie; two grandsons Kevin and Benjamin; his son Brett; daughter-in-law Diane; two stepsons Brett and Kirk; and Sammy Boy the cat he adored. His presence touched not only his family but friends too numerous to count. All who knew him were buoyed by his presence. Although we are saddened by his passing, he will continue to live in our hearts. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 10 at Whatley Chapel, 1800 Oneida Street, on the University of Denver Park Hill Campus. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the Political Science Department, University of Denver, where a scholarship is being established in his name.
