Joseph Tuyls of Derby Creek passed away Saturday June 27 at 1:30 a. m. at his home, following a heart attack. Mr. Tuyls was born in Green Bay, Wis. July 27, 1886. He was united in- marriage to Katherine Fuertsch in Kansas City, Kans., Jan. 27, 1911, where he was employed by the Union Pacific railroad. They later moved to Denver, Colo., where their daughter, Marie was born. In 1915 they moved to Burns, where Mr. Tuyls was foreman for the Benton Land and Livestock Co., for many years. They then moved to McCoy where they operated a filling station and post office. In 1039 they bought 'the Derby Creek Store and Cabins at Derby Creek, where they maintain their home. Mr. Tuyls was instrumental in organizing the Baptist Church at Burns and has been a faithful member. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Marie, wife of Bert Russell of Burns; three granddaughters, Mrs. Jean Gates of Frisco, Mrs. Josephine Monroe of Lakewood and Berta Katherine Russell of Burns; two grandsons, Robert Frank and Lonny Lee Russell and two great-grandchildren, Pamela Gates and Craig Monroe. Funeral services were held at the Eagle Community Church on July 1 with Reverend Francis Ricker of Burns officiating. Interment was In Sunset Cemetery. Eagle with arrangements by Bowman Mortuary of Eagle. Pallbearers were Joe and Frank Albertson, Bud Gates, Frank Gates Don and Ben Wurtsmith.
