Judson's obituary
Benjamin Judson Hambleton 11 "Judson" is now walking among the angels. He
ascended to the gates of Heaven into Jesus's embrace on Tuesday, August 17,
2021. Judson was born December 7, 1987, in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and
passed away in Denver, CO from complications related to spastic quadriplegic
cerebral palsy. His loving parents, Benjamin J. Hambleton and Carol L. Francis-
Hambleton were by his side.
Judson was born with cerebral palsy, but his physical body never slowed him
down. Nothing kept him from living life to the fullest and doing things that most
would think impossible. Judson wasn't afraid of being pushed, carried, pulled, or
lifted through this world so he could experience everything it had to offer.
Judson loved to travel. One of Judson's favorite places was his grandparent's
ranch in Encampment, Wyoming, Water Valley Ranch. He would squeal with
delight as he explored the ranch with his wheelchair strapped to the back of an
ATV. He would climb hills, cross streams, and traverse through the beautiful
aspen and pine groves. There are too many experiences to list from Judson's
extensive travels across the globe where he encountered a diversity of cultures,
religions, and backgrounds. He saw the world through his beautiful eyes and
lifted the spirits of every person he met with his loving smile and contagious
laugh. Although Judson loved world travel, his devotion to the United States was
unparalleled. His love for this country became a very passionate part of Judson's
life.
Judson was a dreamer. His imagination took him to places of infinite possibility,
and he carried that with him everywhere he went. Some of Judson's favorite
stories were from The Chronicles of Narnia. He loved gliding in a sit-ski through
the fresh powder coated trees in Steamboat, looking for his favorite character,
Lucy. He loved the books so much that Make-A-Wish Foundation of Arizona
surprised Judson and his parents with an incredible trip to New Zealand to
watch the filming of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. They met the actors
and visited several of the amazing sets. Judson's love of C.S. Lewis's books
inspired him so much that he traveled to Oxford, England where he took a private
tour of Lewis's home and property. As Judson gazed at the pond, he imagined
several conversations with Lewis about God.
Judson was a student. His love and kindness were felt by many throughout his
schooling. He started school in the mountains of Steamboat Springs attending
Soda Creek, Strawberry Park Elementary, and Edwards Elementary Schools in
Vail. He then made his way to Denver, Colorado where he attended Bromwell
Elementary, Dora Moore Middle School, and South High. Although Judson was
non-verbal, he was a master of using a single head switch to access a
sophisticated communication device that he was eventually able to volunteer and
teach with.
Judson was a teacher. Once Judson graduated, he worked with early
elementary students by reading books aloud, asking questions, and playing
games. He also had his own weekly TV show, "Judson's Club" at the Seacrest
Studio in Children's Hospital. In addition to Judson's time volunteer teaching, he
was awarded the Channel 7 "Everyday Hero" award, received numerous
certificates of volunteering from Hope Schools, and participated in the "Medical
Home" Colorado Department of Health program. He received a standing ovation
amongst eight federal agencies and hundreds of attendees in Washington D.C.
after his touching presentation about high school transition.
Judson was a believer. He had an incredible faith in Jesus, spending hours
listening to the Bible and posting quotes of scripture. His love and dedication to
our Lord and God shown through every part of his being. His kindness, his love,
his acceptance of others, his outpouring of tears when seeing anyone hurt or in
need, or even just tears when hearing beautiful music. He awoke each day with
squeals of joy in anticipation of enjoying every moment to its fullest. Judson
touched the life of many with his memorable smile, his exuberance, joy for life
and his dedication to our Lord.
Judson will be dearly missed by everyone, especially his wonderful family. Their
mutual love, acceptance, admiration, and devotion was unending. All of Judson's
days were filled with love, faith, hope, peace, acceptance, music, fun, and
laughter. He was a true hero, an inspiration to all who could see past his physical
barriers and lovingly take the time to know him.
