Herman “Zeke” Pontius
passed away peacefully at home
with his loving wife Denise by
his side, on December 16, 2020,
from complications of cancer.
Zeke was born January 16,
1952, to Maurice and Luella
Pontius of Grand Valley, CO. He
was the fourth of five children.
Growing up Zeke rode with Cal Underwood, herding cows on the
mountain. In high school Zeke lettered in basketball and was part
of the sharpshooting team where he won an award. Zeke was the
only boy in the graduating class of five.
Shortly after graduation Zeke joined the Navy serving on the USS
Midway during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged
in 1976 and moved back home.
Upon his return home Zeke married Brenda Ross and they had
two boys, Clinton and Clayton. They later divorced.
Zeke served on the Grand Valley Fire Department for 20 years as
EMT ambulance driver and fire fighter.
He loved to hang out in his back yard or shop, visiting with friends
and tinkering with his projects. Everyone was welcome to stop by.
Zeke married Denise Chairetta in May of 2009. They never left
each others side.
Zeke is preceded in death by parents, Maurice and Luella; brother,
Franklin; sister, Linda Waite, and brother-in-law, Mike James. He
is survived by brother, Harold (Herk) Pontius of Grand Junction,
CO; sister, Kay James of Carlsbad NM; sons, Clint Pontius and
Clay Pontius; wife, Denise Chairetta, and granddaughters, Serenity
and Mc Kenzie Pontius.
Services will be held at the Grand Valley Fire Station at 1:00
p.m., December 21, 2020.
