Mike “El Supremo” McInaney
was born on September 30,
1938, in Denver, CO, and
adopted as an infant by Michael
and Ethyl McInaney. He grew
up in Colorado Springs, living
the outdoor life of hunting,
fishing and jeeping. He stated
he couldn’t live anywhere but
Colorado as he would fall over if he didn’t have the mountains to
lean on. He graduated from Saint Mary’s High School in 1956, and
enlisted in the Army. He was proud of his service as a military
policeman and was stationed for three years in Germany.
On discharge, he landed his first job with Davis Bro. Drug
Wholesale Co., licking off a career as a salesman. He had the gift
of blarney and loved to socialize.
He married his wife, Kathleen, in 1964, and moved to Grand
Junction in 1972. They adopted an infant daughter, Mary, in 1974.
Michael was active in IHM Catholic Church, serving on the
Parish Council, Parish Activities Commissions, as well as the fund
raising committee for the new church. He loved to set up the “tent”
for outdoor events. He was active in the Knights of Columbus for
many years.
Michael enjoyed traveling. He especially liked vacations with
extended family, his favorites being Welk Resort in Southern
California and Waskesiu Resort in Northern Saskatchewan. He
developed a love for golf later in life and has always enjoyed
working in his “yard” of which he was very proud. His was a life
well lived and he will be remembered with love and laughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael Sr., and Ethyl
McInaney; brother, Don McInaney; Canadian in-laws, Louis and
Elizabeth Balaz, and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Weinbender. He
is survived by wife, Kathleen; daughter, Mary (Steven) Coates;
numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial services are scheduled for Thursday, January 28, at
10:30 a.m., at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Outreach or
IHM Catholic Church.
