Jim was born to James Curtis
and Patricia Geraldene (Presnall)
Wilkinson in Chicago, Illinois.
Shortly they moved to Texas. He
died at home October 23, 2020,
in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Jim graduated from Kenedy
High School in 1963. On full
scholarship, he graduated from
Texas A&M University, in 1967, majoring in Geology. He joined
the Navy. He was one of the chosen few to graduate from what later
became known as TOPGUN School. When stationed in Beeville,
TX, he would buzz his parents’ house.
Afterward he worked for Bureau of Land Management as a
Geologist, in Arizona, Alaska, Montana, and Colorado, retiring
after more than 36 years.
He married Sharon E. Garman in 1972, and together had
two children, Heather Lynn Wilkinson of Glenwood Springs
(granddaughter Stella Rayanne), and Sean James Patrick Wilkinson,
of Grand Junction. Jim has one brother, Rick Wilkinson, of
Highland Village, Texas, and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jim
was preceded in death by his parents.
Jim married Kathleen Chapman on September 12, 1998, and
together they enjoyed dancing and golf. After several years of
marriage, Jim rekindled his love for music and began singing again.
For many years, they had two different couples join them weekly
for karaoke.
Interment of ashes will take place April 23, 1:00 p.m.
