Edwin Horne
April 4, 1927 - February 26, 2021
Edwin Neil “Ed” Horne was
born in Riverside, California.
Dad served in the Army from
July, 1945 to September, 1948.
His longest tour of duty during
WWII was in the medical labs
at different locations in Italy
taking care of the needs of his
fellow fighting solders.
He met Oma Virginia
Crawford while working at
Bridgeport Brass in Riverside and they were married on August
27, 1954. Dad inherited two daughters, Ginger and Jeannie. Ed and
Oma had another daughter, Andi, a few years later.
Dad was a Metallurgist for Bridgeport Brass, which became
Hunter Douglas Engineers, which became Alcan Aluminum which
became Rio Tinto Alcan Aluminum. He was laid off when Rio
Tinto closed the Riverside plant. He spent four hours commuting
into LA to work for Quantum Chemicals. He retired in 1983.
When we were growing up Dad enjoyed taking us down to
Ensenada, Mexico with the jeep to camp along the Coast of the
Pacific; going on jeep cavalcades with the jeep club or spending a
weekend at the fabulous Rosarito Beach Hotel, Mexico. Dad also
was a professional photographer and took pictures of weddings and
events sponsored by the Riverside Raceway. His photographs that
he entered in the Orange County Fairs always received recognition.
Dad and Mom were always available to take us and other girls to
weekend events for the Girl Scouts or Job Daughters. We spent a lot
of time at the cabin in Running Springs, California. Dad and Mom
enjoyed sharing their time in Cabo San Lucas at their two timeshares with family and friends. Their grandchildren have many
memories of the trips that they shared with them.
In 2009 they left Riverside to live in Grand Junction, Colorado
to be closer to their daughters and their families. In 2013, Dad was
part of the Colorado West Honor Flight and enjoyed being in our
country’s capitol along with his fellow WWII veterans.
Dad is preceded in death by his father, Hugh Harold Horne;
mother, Hallie Beth Ogden-Horne-Bennett; wife, Oma Virginia
Crawford, and son-in-law, Clinton Paul Gorman. He leaves
behind daughters, Ginger (Dave), Jeannie, and Andi (Dan); five
granddaughters; seven grandsons; three great-grandsons, and four
great-granddaughters.
In the last year of his life, HopeWest and First Light added to
his enjoyment of being able to stay home. We were so blessed to
have them help us take care of our Dad. In the last two months,
HopeWest and Mesa Manor took great care of Dad. Our Thanks
to the VA Medical Center for all of the excellent support that they
gave him.
Dad, thanks for the wonderful memories we we
