The results of the autopsy performed on Nathan Vernon, 27, revealed that he died of cardiac arrhythmia, the Eagle County Coroners Office said Tuesday.

Vernon, a Boulder resident, was participating in the Jeep Whitewater Festival's kayak competition in Dowd Junction last weekend when he came free from his kayak during the event. Rescue workers pulled him from the water quickly and administered first aid.

Following his death, Jeep Whitewater Festival officials cancelled the remainder of the events.
