William “Bill”
T. Fanning, Jr.
September 3, 1946 - January 5, 2021
Our husband, father,
grandfather, and best
friend, passed away due
to complications from
internal stomach bleeding.
Bill was surrounded with
love by his wife Jana,
daughter Jayme, and son T, as he took his last breath.
Bill was born in Boulder to the late William Sr. and
Velda (Lipsey) Fanning, and grew up in Grand Junction.
He graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1964,
was drafted into the Army in 1967, and was honorably
discharged in 1969. After his military service, he
obtained his degree from Ft. Lewis College in Durango.
Bill and Jana were married in Grand Junction in 1971.
After living in Durango and Boulder, they settled in
Longmont. Shortly thereafter, Bill began his banking
career by working for several banks, culminating
his career by establishing his own company, Home
Loan Mortgage Corporation. He was very successful,
becoming the largest residential construction lender
in Boulder County and the Front Range. Bill was also
active in his community, serving on numerous boards
and was President and Chairman of the Board of
Directors of the Longmont Chamber of Commerce in
1983.
Family and friends were extremely important to Bill;
the trait he was most known for was his generosity. He
made sure to demonstrate his appreciation and love
by giving lavish gifts and cooking gourmet meals,
which he was well known for. Bill also loved to travel,
especially to Mexico, Italy, and Ireland.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jana; daughter, Jayme
Ryan (Shane); son, William T. Fanning III (Jennifer);
grandkids, Marc Evans and Ashley Evans; his Aunt
Marge Magner, and many cousins. He also left many
close friends behind, all of whom miss his hour-long
telephone conversations. He is predeceased by his
parents, and sister, Diane Najera.
On January 14, 2021, Father Dick Haldane, Bill’s
dear friend, officiated Bill’s funeral mass in Longmont,
and Manuel Escamilla, another close friend, presented
a lively, heartfelt eulogy. Bill was given an honorable
military sendoff. His ashes will be interred in a
columbarium, close to his father and mother at
Immaculate Heart of Mary, the morning of August 21,
2021.
Due to Covid, our family was unable to have a
reception, we feel now is the time to honor Bill by
having a Celebration of Life. The Fanning family invite
Bill’s friends to join us on August 21, 2 - 5:00 p.m., at
Ramblebine Brewing Company, 457 Colorado Ave.,
Grand Junction, where we all will merrily drink, eat,
and share stories about Bill. Please join us to celebr
