Glenise Muriel Overby,
age 93, of Grand Junction,
Colorado, died Wednesday,
July 21, 2021, at Mantey
Heights Rehab and Care
Center.
She was born August 14,
1927, in Wisconsin, the daughter of Gilbert and Olga
Knutson. She spent her youth in Chetek, Wisconsin,
where she met and married Vernon Overby on June 5,
1949. They were married for 63 years until his death in
2009.
Glenise and Vernon lived and worked in Grand
Rapids, Michigan for many years. She was employed as
an insurance underwriter. Later they moved to Colorado
where they eventually made their home in Clifton. In
retirement she enjoyed traveling across the states with
Vernon and their dachshunds. They often included the
dogs even when traveling on their Harley Davidson.
Glenise was a member of the Shepherd of the Valley
Lutheran Church of Grand Junction, the Gem & Mineral
Club, and was a founding member of the Vestafjell
Lodge of the Sons of Norway. She worked with several
women to locate other Norwegians in the area. It took
them two years to have their lodge chartered.
She will be fondly remembered by Dwaine Overby
(brother-in-law); Ruth Overby (sister-in-law); Lanny
Albaitis (nephew); Leroy Stolberg (cousin); other nieces,
nephews, cousins, and friends. The family would like to
express their appreciation for the care given Glenise this
last year by the staff of Mantey Heights and HopeWest
Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution can be made
to HopeWest Hospice, 3090B North 12th St., Grand
Junction, CO 81506.
Friday, October 1, 2021, at 10:00 a.m., a Memorial
Service and Internment will be held at the Veteran’s
Memorial Cemetery. Cremation has taken place and
arrangements have been entrusted to Martin Mortuary
of Grand Junction. A reception will be held at the
Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church following
services
