Surrounded by family and friends, Darlene Walker died in Albuquerque, N.M. on July 15 following a short illness. She was 73 years old.

Darlene was born in Dent, Colo. on March 30, 1933. Her parents were Roscoe and Myrtle Fox Paris. She and her only sibling, Russell, grew up in the small, high country community of McCoy, Colo. where her father worked a a railroader. There on Feb 4, 1951, she married her dashing West-Texas cowboy, Billy O. Walker. Four children was born to this union.

Throughout their long and loving marriage, she dedicated herself to her family and home. Bill and Darlene ranched and pipelined for many years in Texas and Colorado before settling in the Four Corners region in 1972. Bill preceded her in death on July 22 1992.

She loved painting, crafts, her circle of friends, and most of all, her family. She never met a stranger in her life.

Unfailingly cheerful, warm, and full of laughter, Darlene absolutely delighted in life. With quiet strength, dignity, and extraordinary wit, she faced many challenges with a smile. For this, she will be missed.

She leaves behind her a legacy of love and the importance of family. She is survived by her four children: Linda Walker of Terlinqua, Tex., Sam Walker of Aztec, N.M., Debbie Walker of Ignacio, Colo.; and Marti Anderson of Bayfield, Colo. She also leaves behind her seven grandchildren: Willy Walker-Blackstock and Kelly Suficool; Jonce and Seth Walker and Christina Walker-Steele; and Shonda R. and Dusty Anderson.

A memorial and funeral was held on Wednesday, July 19, at the 1st United Methodist Church in Aztec, N.M. followed by a graveside service and burial at the Florida Cemetery in Durango.
