The Daily Sentinel page 5C - August 29, 2021

Dionicia “Nicha” was
born in Santa Eulalia,
Chihuahua Mexico
on October 9, 1935,
to Faustino and Isabel
Zambrano. She married
Jose Arrieta on August 25,
1961. She and Jose migrated to the United States where
she gave birth to their first daughter, Maria, shortly
thereafter. Nicha then had another daughter, Graciela
“Grace”, followed by son, Jose Jr. “Joe.”
In the early years, Nicha worked in the fields and then
worked at Fabricare laundromat in Grand Junction, CO.
Her time in the workforce ended when she was called
to her greatest calling and passion, Grandma. She
was proud to be an integral part of raising her seven
grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Aside from being known as “Grandma” to many in
the community who loved her dearly, she loved to cook.
Many looked forward to enjoying her cooking at the
annual Cinco De Mayo celebration, where the Arrieta
family came together to share her amazing food with
the community for more than 20 years. Grandma also
made many friends at the bingo hall playing bingo. She
loved to gamble, watch boxing, and enjoyed gardening.
Of course, we cannot write about Grandma without
mentioning her heartthrob, Vicente Fernandez.
Grandma spent the end of her life surrounded by
her family and friends doing the things she loved until
Jesus called her home after a courageous battle with
Parkinson’s Disease. While we will miss her dearly, we
are blessed to have gained the most amazing Guardian
Angel, Grandma.
She is survived by her husband, Jose; daughters,
Maria (Danny), and Grace (Marion); son, Joe (Candy),
and all of her grandchildren.
Services for Grandma will be as follows: Viewing
followed by Rosary at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary
at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday August 31, 2021. Funeral will
be Wednesday, September 1, 2021, 10:00 a.m., at
St. Joseph’s Catholic Church followed by a burial at
Orchard Mesa Cemetery. A celebration of life will
follow.
