Jess Lee Olson
November 25, 1956 - July 15, 2021
Jess Lee Olson, son of
David and Rosalind Olson,
passed away July 15,
2021, at his residence in
Anchorage, Alaska at the
age of 64.
Jess grew up in Grand
Junction and graduated
from Central High School
in 1975. He joined the Army soon after graduating.
He was a tank crew member and an expert pistol
marksman. Jess spent two seasons in Antartica
performing topographic drift surveys at the South Pole
in 1997-1998 and 1998-1999. He worked primarily as
a surveyor in Springfield, Missouri, various Colorado
locations and Alaska. He moved to Anchorage, Alaska
in 2013, and began surveying for the government. He
spent some time as a truck driver as well.
Jess was a talented artist and skilled in pottery
making. He enjoyed motorcycles and astronomy.
He is survived by his father, David Olson (Margie);
brother, George Olson; sisters, Jacqueline Hodson
(Bill), and Delene Crites (Larry). His mother, Rosalind
Olson, preceded him in death.
Cremation has taken place and a service will be held
at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery January 3, 2022, at
1:00 p.m., 2830 Riverside Pkwy., Grand Junction, CO.
