Eagle Valley Enterprise - January 22, 2004

Ben White of Laramie, Wyo., died on Jan. 9 at Spring Wind Assisted Living Center in Laramie, Wyo. He was 70 years old.

Ben was born on April 18, 1933 Martin and Norma (Hulett) White in Glenwood Springs, Colo. He was raised in the Eagle Valley and attended school and graduated in Eagle. On March 15, 1951 he married Roxie Mickey Randall in Denver. The couple later moved to Laramie, Wyo. where they raised their family.

Ben worked on a number of cattle ranches in Wyoming during his life and it was his dream to own his own cattle ranch. He was known as the "Cow Man" to all those who where in the ranching and cattle industry. He was named Albany County Top Hand in 1976.

After back surgery in 1960, Ben was no longer able to work on the ranches. He took a job as the Laramie County Road Supervisor even though ranching was still in his blood and he would drive to the ranches around Laramie to check on the cattle that he used to manage. He became ill in 1983 and was unable to work.

When Ben wasn't tending the cattle his life revolved around his family and friends. He loved to dance, play cards and going to wedding and graduations for his nieces and nephews. Ben had his last dance with friend Louanne Mathey at his old stomping grounds, Woods Landing, Wyo. before he passed away.

Ben was preceded in death by his wife, Mickey White; his parents Martin and Norma White; stepfather Floyd Hulett; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mick and Agnes Randall. He is survived by his children, daughter Vickey Beel, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; son Mark (Pam) White, Laramie, Wyo.,; daughter Sharon (Dean) Rasmussen, Sterling; and all their families. Survivors also include his brothers, Jim (Linda) White, Ft. Morgan, Colo., and LeRoy "Butch" (Jody) White, Ellsmere, Neb.; sisters Linda (Larry) Armstrong, Cody, Wyo., and Lauretta (Carl) Anderson, Woodland, Tex.; stepmother Jessie White, Cody, Wyo.; and brother-in-law Robert (Carol), Saratoga, Wyo.;, and sister-in-law Donna (August) Natal of Carbondale, Colo.

Services were held on Jan. 14 at Spring Wind Assisted Living Center in Laramie with a private interment before the services.

Memorials may be sent to the Dialysis Unit at Iverson Memorial Hospital. 255 N. 30th St., Laramie, Wyo. 80272
