Dell Len Johnson,
born on April 9, 1939, in
Monmouth, IL, succumbed
to cancer on Wednesday,
December 22, 2021. He
was 82 years old and lived
in Whitewater, CO.
Dell grew up in Peoria, IL. He moved to Odessa, TX
in 1955 where he met his future wife. They married in
1956 and had four boys. He served in the Air Force for
four years then became a diesel mechanic and later in
life owned pawn shops. After he retired, he worked for
the Parks Department at the City of Grand Junction for
13 years. He reluctantly retired at the age of 82. Dell
was an avid hunter and loved fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Johnson, of
Whitewater, CO; sons, Timothy L. Johnson, of
Anderson, CA; Paul O. Johnson (Vonnie), of Dayton,
TN, and Ronald L. Johnson (Louise), of Grand
Junction, CO; sisters, Mary Jane Whitney (Lew), of
Las Vegas, NV; Gertrude Jones, of Suwannee, OK, and
Donna McAllister, of Flora, IL; grandchildren, Ami S.
Hauptman (Bart), of Redding, CA; Alisa L. Johnson
(Pancho), and Ryan A. Johnson (Emily), both of Grand
Junction, CO, and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents, Joseph Johnson
and Nellie Blevins; sister, Betty Lydic; brothers, Joseph
and Don Johnson, and son, James Dell Johnson.
Visitation January 11, 2022, from 6 - 8:00 p.m., at
Martin Mortuary. Funeral service January 12, 2022,
10:00 a.m., at Martin Mortuary, 550 North Ave., Grand
Jct., CO 81501. Burial at Veterans Memorial Cemetery,
1:00 p.m., 2830 Riverside Pkwy., Grand Junction, CO
