On Saturday, January 8, 2022, Perry H. McGinnis, of
Grand Junction, Colorado, passed away at the age of 91.
Perry was born December 18, 1930, to George and
Myrtle (Whitener) McGinnis in Fredricktown, MO.
He moved to Colorado at the age of two, but always
considered himself a Colorado native.
Perry was an Air Force veteran who served during the
Korean War, stationed in Erding, Germany. After his
military service, he worked at the Rio Grand Railroad
for short time; was a Millwright, Business Agent for
the Millwright Local Union in Denver, and ended his
career working for OSHA as a Liaison.
Perry had a passion for life, and a bright and
enthusiastic outlook on everything he did. He enjoyed
the outdoors, sports, and travel. He was an avid
outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hiking. Perry
loved sports and was always rooting for his hometown
Broncos and Nuggets. He was also an avid runner and
once completed a marathon. During his life he traveled
near and far, even taking a five month long around the
world cruise.
His true passion was his family. He was a devoted,
loving father, husband, partner, grandfather, and friend.
Most of all he was known for his kind and compassionate
spirit; always willing to lend a helping hand to those in
need, never asking for recognition or anything in return.
Perry was predeceased by his wife of 46 years,
Valda Mae (Phillips) McGinnis; parents, George and
Myrtle McGinnis; siblings, Cecile, Paul, Geniva,
Eula, Elisabeth, Juanita, Otto, twin brother Harry, and
Walker, and daughter-in-law, Kim. He is survived by
his partner, Patty Wischnowski; sons, Patrick (Jane),
and Brian, and grandchildren, Kylee, Sean, Taryn, and
Cullen.
A private service is planned for in the near future.
