John K. Kiser, of
Grand Junction, passed
away peacefully at home
Sunday, March 13, 2022.
He was born January 16,
1929, in Detroit, Michigan,
to Paul and Elizabeth
Kiser. John attended college and later joined the Air
Force where he was a staff meteorologist, liaison officer,
and navigator in the air weather service and attained the
grade of Major.
John managed fuel stations in Yellowstone National
Park and worked as a Coors representative in Kansas. He
learned how to fly airplanes in Wichita where he earned
his ATP and later became a professional corporate
pilot. He was chief pilot and flight department manager
for Colorado National Banks. He flew primarily in
Colorado and surrounding states servicing farm and
ranch bank loans. He loved his job.
He retired in 1992 and became a farmer on Redlands
Mesa between Delta and Hotchkiss where he raised
dairy-grade alfalfa. In 1998, he moved to Fruita and
raised grass horse hay. John liked hauling, driving,
fixing, and washing his tractors and farm equipment.
John was married to Sandra, in Teasdale, Utah,
in June 1982. They both enjoyed exploring the back
country of Utah west of Hanksville with their two dogs,
Whipper, a miniature dark brown poodle and Charlie,
a springer spaniel. Also, in their family, over the years
were burros Chester, Jenny, and Sassy. The most recent
of their beloved pets was Cassidy, another dark brown
miniature poodle, and Busy Bee cat.
John enjoyed going to the Western Implement auction
and the Grand Junction gun show. He liked talking
to people and had a lot of friends. He belonged to the
Delta Elks Lodge and was a member of the VFW,
AOPA, AFA, and the National Western Stock Show. His
hobbies included photography and target shooting. John
was a strong person and a good person. He was well
loved. May he rest in peace.
He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fruita
for some years.
Arrangements are under direction of Callahan-Edfast
Mortuary with burial to take place at the Veterans
Memorial Cemetery March 28, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. A
family and friend get together will take place afterwards.
