Anthony “Tony” Tom
September 28, 1966 - March 20, 2022
Anthony “Tony” Tom was born to Peteni Ikachengi
and Aiauo Assauo, on Nama Island, Micronesia, on
September 28, 1966. He died on the mainland, March
20, 2022.
Growing up on Nama Island he climbed tall breadfruit
trees, fished the atoll, and was an older brother to Atauo.
Educated on Nama, and later Chuuk High School, he
then attended college at Corsicana, Texas, on the
mainland.
Tony and Cher married in 1994. He spent countless
hours with Cher’s son, Suda, playing basketball and
hiking with Suda and his friends, Brian, Kaibab, the
Lincoln boys, and all the others.
Annie later joined the family. “My Dad was known for
his friendliness and kindness. He would make friends
with anyone. He didn’t judge others and was open with
everyone. He liked to make people laugh. We all love
him and he will always be in our hearts.”
Granddaughters, Cyrah, Kylani, and grandson,
Malaki couldn’t wait for visits “from Grandpa,” and his
youngest grandson, Anden, loved his Papa endlessly.
Tony was a baker for 30 years. He also held a seconddegree black belt in Shito-ryu. He loved fishing and
hiking, and most of all talking politics, sports and the
Bible with many friends.
He proudly became a United States citizen three years
ago.
Tony is survived by his wife of 28 years, Cher L.
Tom; son, Suda (Karrie) Manuel; grandchildren, Cyrah,
Malaki, and Kylani; daughter, Annette, and grandson,
Anden Tom. Countless islanders, including brother,
Atauo Tom, and his family also survive.
Graveside services will be Saturday, April 2, at 2:00
p.m., at Palisade Cemetery. Arrangements handled by
Mesa Mortuary.
Psalms 119: 11 - “Thy word have I hid in mine heart
that I might not sin against thee.”
