Aara “George”
Douglas
May 24, 1935 - August 11, 2021
Aara “George” Douglas,
86, of Glade Park,
Colorado, was born May
24, 1935, in Merkle, Texas.
He passed away August 11,
2021, while under the care
of the VA Hospital due to
health complications. We would like to give them a
big thank you for all they did and also thank you to the
home health care team. It was during his final stay at
the VA Hospital that George received Jesus Christ as
his personal savior.
George served in the U.S. Army, and was honorably
discharged on August 1, 1966. He also served in the Air
National Guard, and received an honorable discharge
on April 8, 1976.
He married the love of his life, Barbara; they had
many wonderful years together. Barbara preceded him
in death in 2018.
George had four children from a previous marriage,
Aara George Jr. “Doug”, Wynell, Carolyn, and Phillip.
He also had four bonus children that came with
Barbara, Dawn Marie, Robert Carl, Michael Roger, and
Eric Todd. George had several grandchildren, nieces,
nephews, brothers, sisters, extended family members,
and a couple of very close friends that became like
family to both George and Barbara.
He was one of the last real cowboys. He loved
everything John Wayne and enjoyed watching old
Western Movies. He enjoyed telling stories about his
life experiences and all the people he knew.
George had a very special place in his heart for all
animals. He raised several animals throughout the
years and loved all of them; he especially loved his dog,
Amigo; his cat, Oliver; his donkeys; and his horse who
gave him comfort after Barb passed.
George was an entrepreneur and a survivor. The
details and experiences, business adventures, successes
and failures, his transition to the State Inspector for
Colorado, and all his life adventures would fill volumes.
Most people know him from Glade Park where he lived
over 25 years with Barbara at the Circl D Ranch.
George was blessed with many special neighbors and
friends that would do anything for him, they were a
huge help to him once his health started failing. God put
his Angel neighbors in his life the last few years, and
they selflessly gave of themselves time after time, no
matter what time of day or in the middle of the night. If
George needed anything, they would stop whatever they
were doing and rush to attend his needs. We want to
give a heartfelt thank you to the Stepanek family, they
truly were an answered prayer.
When George could no longer care for his animals,
he had another answered prayer - Brenda and Thomas
Garrett, who took George’s donkey and horse under
their Animal Hospice Care. The Garretts helped with
veterinary bills, and kept the animals fed. This took a
huge burden off George, he was so happy to know that
they were well taken care of.
In lieu of flowers, if you would like to give a donation
all proceeds will go to the Animal Hospice Care. Please
make checks payable to Brenda Garrett.
We would like to thank all of you that helped George
and you know who you are! May the Lord bless you for
your unconditional love and help always!
Rest in Peace, George. We love and miss you so much,
and we will be looking forward to the day we can meet
again. Adios, Cowboy!
