Lonnie Shults
December 20, 1942 - May 2, 2022
Lonnie Shults, husband,
father, papa, cowboy,
and rancher, passed away
Monday, May 2, 2022,
at his home in Meeker,
Colorado.
A lifelong rancher,
Lonnie started his life’s
journey on December 20,
1942, with his parents, Winnie and Ivo, and big sister,
Lo Ann. He attended Meeker High School and was
active in sports and FFA. He was the quarterback of the
football team, played basketball, and ran track. During
his high school years, he enjoyed camping and fishing
expeditions up the White River with his “buddies.”
Lonnie’s lifelong ambition was to be a rancher and
continue the legacy of working the family ranch, which
he was able to fulfill with his father and his son.
He married the love of his life and high school
sweetheart, Peggy, September 5, 1965. They enjoyed
56 beautiful years together. Some of Lonnie’s fondest
memories were: Dancing with his wife, cowboying with
his son, pushing cows with his dog Whiskey, coaching
his daughter’s youth basketball team, attending Meeker
and CMU sporting events, and spending time with his
four special grandchildren.
Lonnie had many words of wisdom and life lessons
which he passed on to his children and grandchildren:
“Get it done,” “Make sure the gates are closed” “Get up
if it’s not broke,” and “Finish what you start.”
He leaves a legacy of love and hard work. He is survived
by his loving wife, Peggy; son, Todd (Michelle) Shults;
daughter, Amy (Kevin) Shearrow; grandchildren, Jay
Shearrow, Aimee, Lauryn, and Tanner Shults; sister, Lo
Ann (Lowell) Klinglesmith and family, and numerous
family and friends.
A graveside service will be held at Meeker Highlands
Cemetery May 14 at 11:00 a.m.
In honor of Lonnie’s love of sports, donations may be
sent to the CMU Women’s Basketball Scholarship Fund
at Colorado Mesa University Foundation 1450 N. 12th
Street, Grand Junction, CO 81501.
