Clarence Loell “Sonny”
Rost passed away on
Mother’s Day, May 8, 2022,
at the Veteran’s Hospital in
Grand Junction, Colorado.
He was born in Flagler,
Colorado, April 19, 1939,
to Fred and Mary (Roles) Rost. He attended school
at Penrose and Cotopaxi, Colorado, and graduated
from high school in Moab, Utah. After working in the
uranium industry, he enrolled in the US Army and was
a proud member of the 82nd Airborne.
After serving his country, he attended Mesa College
in Grand Junction, and Western State in Gunnison,
obtaining B.A. degrees in English and History, and an
M.A. in School Administration. He served 17 years in
public education in Nebraska as a teacher and a school
principal. He also ran a grocery store in Nebraska for
13 years. As his sons grew, he was always active and
interested in their academic and sports activities. He
taught them to respect hard work and to respect their
mothers.
In his words, “ I escaped Nebraska”, and he returned
to his beloved Rocky Mountains, and the red sandstone
beauty of Eastern Utah, where he continued to hike,
fish, shoot, golf, and read. He donated over 10 gallons
of blood at St. Mary’s.
Survivors include his sons, Shane, Tyler, and Troy;
three grandchildren; brother, Bob, and sister, Kristin
Thomson.
Private services will take place.
