Evaristo Santana "Evy" Rivera died Saturday, Jan. 19, in Carlsbad, N.M. He was 23.
Rivera was born April 20, 1978, in Leadville. His parents were Stanley Duarte and Evie Ann Rivera Leyba. Evy went to school in Eagle County, attending Red Cliff Elementary, Minturn Middle School and Battle Mountain High School. While in school Evy enjoyed playing baseball and wrestling.
"Evy" was a member of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Red Cliff. He worked as a carpet layer in Elko, Nev., and also laid carpet in some of the churches in Buena Vista.
He loved fishing, hunting, camping and was quite a Broncos fan. But a family member said what he enjoyed most was his drawings. His family said they will always cherish the artwork he left them.
Rivera is survived by: Theresa Duarte and their children Evie Ann and Leyba in Colorado Srings and Stanley Duarte in Golden; grandparents Evaristo and Rose River in Red Cliff; siblings Jacob, Victoria, Samuel, Daniel, Natasha, Charity, Leah, Crista, Adam, Hannah, Simone, Molina, Naomi and Simon Leyba, and Crystal Duarte; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.
A Rosary was recited 7 p.m. Tues., Jan. 22 at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel in Leadville. A Memorial Mass was said at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23 at the Red Cliff Community Center.
