Stoneburner was born
January 9, 1940, to
Clarence and Clara
Cline Stoneburner in Mt.
Vernon, Ohio.
Ron attended school in
Mt. Vernon, graduating in 1958. He played football on
two undefeated football teams. Ron was a member of
National Athletic Society and National Honor Society.
In 1958 he attended Western State College in
Gunnison. He lettered four years in football and one
year in track. He graduated in 1962 with a B.A. and
1964 with a M.A. degree.
Ron married Judy Buffington in 1962. They had
one son, Scott Stoneburner. Ron taught and coached
one year in Johnstown, Ohio. In 1965, he accepted a
position at Grand Junction High School where he taught
history and was the Assistant Football Coach. In 1971
he became the head coach at Grand Junction High
School with a record of 49 wins, 14 losses.
Ron married Nadine Myers in 1978 and was married
for 43 years. He is survived by wife, Nadine; son,
Scott (Bev); Scott’s two children Greg and Kayla;
stepdaughter, Lisa Powers; step grandson, Josh (Tessa)
Miller; four great stepchildren; sisters, Shirlene
Mooney and Janice Lower of Ohio; and several nieces
and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday, June 9 at 10:00 a.m.
at the Grand Junction Municipal Cemetery (first road).
Please no flowers, but donations to a charity of your
choice is suggested. There will be a Celebration of Life
gathering at the First Presbyterian Church following the
graveside service
