Minturn says good-bye to a friend..Shara Lynn Townsend, 21, remembered by the community

Shara Lynn Townsend, 21, of Leadville and Las Vegas, Ariz., died Thursday, May 24, form injuries sustained in a single-car accident.

Townsend was well known in Minturn for her bright smile and graceful attitude toward customers, whom she patiently served at the Minturn Shop & Hop Gas and Convenience Store and Minturn Mile Liquors.

"Regardless of how she was feeling, she always made everyone else feel good, that was her best character trait," says Michael Crowder, owner of Minturn Mile Liquors, where Townsend had worked for the past two months.

"She was just an incredible little girl who always saw the good in everything. We loved having her here," says Charlene Medina, manager of the Minturn Shop & Hop. "She always made a point of getting to know people and people just loved her."

In her spare time, Townsend liked to race up and down dirt tracks near Minturn and Leadville on a motocross bike. "She was the aspiring queen of motocross," says Crowder, adding that Townsend had hoped to someday make her hobby a profession.

Townsend was on her way home from work in Minturn at the onset of Memorial Day weekend, when she lost control of her car on U.S. Highway 24 just outside of Leadville. She was pronounced dead at the scene, along with her dog and loyal companion, Ohiah.

She was laid to rest at the Elk's Rest Cemetery in Leadville Sunday, May 27. Townsend is survived by her parents, Sherry and Steve Wilder of Las Vegas; four sisters; her boyfriend, Jerald Lambert of Leadville, as well as friends and colleagues in Leadville and Minturn.
