Steamboat Pilot & Today - September 1, 2022

March 30, 1946 – August 23, 2022

Wayne E. More, a born and raised Routt county rancher, devoted husband, loving father, and proud family man has passed on to greener pastures at the age of 76.

Born March 30, 1946 to C.W “Buster” and Dorothy Jean More (Hitchens), Wayne attended school in Steamboat Springs and graduated with the Steamboat Springs High school class of 1964.

After high school, Wayne enlisted in the U.S Army, and served in Germany with the 3rd Armored division between April 1964 and August 1966 when he received an honorable discharge and was released from duty early after the death of his mother.

Later in life, Wayne worked for a drilling company that did mineral exploration, mostly in Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming. Wayne could sit for hours and tell stories of his favorite times in the high country where he would work and enjoy nature at the same time.

As his family grew, he needed to be closer to home so he began the second half of his career, working for several companies before finally buying his first truck and making the move to owning his own business. He spent the next 35 years as a truck driver and he loved every mile.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 51 years and mother of their children, Rebecca (Becky), three sons David of Oak Creek, Leslie of Hayden, and Luke of Craig, his sister Bonnie of Kansas City, MO, and his brother Wade of Gillette, WY. He has four grandkids, Kalob, Cassidy, Koda and Kaden. He is proceeded in death by his mother and father, and a brother, Glen.

Wayne did not wish to have a funeral. The family is planning a celebration of his life to be held in the spring of 2023.
