Mary J. Hayes, 80, passed away October 8th at UCHealth Yampa Valley Medical Center in Steamboat Springs, CO.
Mary Jeanne was born June 19th, 1942 to Norval V. Hayes and Marie C. (Weber) Hayes in Danby, Missouri.
Mary graduated from Wiggins High School in 1960. Following graduation, she moved to Greeley, CO and worked as a bookkeeper at Lin Grove Cemetary.
Mary married Charles A. Sheldon in 1962 and they had Tracy Lee, followed by Jana Marie. Following a divorce, Mary married Allen E. Moffat in 1967 in Chihuahua, MX. and together, they had Carla Jeanne and Jody Lynn.
Allen, Mary, and the four children relocated to Powell, WY in 1972. Mary started working for the Public Defender, John Lake, in 1976. She, also, worked for James Allison and Ken Koski, as they all shared the same office. In addition, Mary concurrently worked for the State of Wyoming in a legal capacity.
In 1987, Mary and her daughter, Jody, relocated to Steamboat Springs, CO, as Mary was offered employment with the City of Steamboat Springs working with the city attorney. She later took on the additional position of Municipal Court Clerk. If you ever received a parking or speeding ticket in Steamboat, you probably spoke to Mary and she, most likely, took care of you.
Mary retired from the City of Steamboat after nearly 20 years. She’d since made her home in Hayden, CO and enjoyed reading, traveling (as long as planes were NOT required), and working in her garden, flowerbeds, and yard. She most enjoyed spending time with her family and was extremely close to all her children and grandchildren.
Mary was preceeded in death by her parents, Norval V. and Marie C.; her brother, Leroy A. Hayes; her sisters, Loretta M. Parmalee and Elizabet (Betsy) A. Wilhelm; and her daughter, Jana M. Sheldon.
Mary is survived by her son, Tracy L. Sheldon of Cody, WY; her daughters, Carla J. Moffat and Jody L. Moffat-Silver (David), both of Craig, CO.
Mary was a proud and loving grandmother to Levi A. (Aberiane) Sheldon and their four children, Ayden, Trystan, Kaiden, and Londyn of Berthoud, CO; Bailey M. Harper and her son, Cash, of Eugene, OR; Laci (Matt) Dreiling and their children, Sadie and Calvin of Greeley, CO; Keaton C.J. Sheldon of Cody, WY; and Jonah A. Silver of Craig, CO.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Her family will be proud to carry on her legacy of unconditional and unwavering love, as well as, treating everyone with respect and kindness.
