Katie was the middle
daughter born to sheep
rancher Konstantine (Gus)
Theos and Sophia Theos
(nee Gavalas) in Grand
Junction, Colorado. She
passed away suddenly on
November 8, 2022 surrounded by family.
Katie’s life was richly varied. She was a champion
equestrian and alum of the Perry-Mansfield Performing
Arts School. She was fascinated with language, earning
her BA from the University of Denver in Arts and
Humanities and then an MA in Linguistics. She made
a career in the restaurant business and later became
caretaker to her mother and then both of her sisters until
their deaths.
Katie was a generous, trusting, and compassionate
soul. She had a bold voice and a droll, sarcastic, and
sharp sense of humor. A storyteller, listener, and
counselor, she was the keeper of the family stories, from
the trials of our parents, immigrant grandparents and
their ancestors, to the everyday struggles and triumphs
of her extended family. She was our unsung hero.
Katie’s funeral will be held at Saint Nicholas Orthodox
Church in Grand Junction Friday, Nov. 18 at 11a.m. In
lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made
to Planned Parenthood in her name.
