Joseph Kyle Obergfell,
59, died of sepsis on April
15, 2023 at St. Mary’s
Hospital. Kyle was born in
Grand Junction and went to
Palisade High School and
Colorado Mesa University
(CMU) where he earned two bachelor’s degrees in
nursing and psychology. He worked as a psychiatric
nurse for many years in veterans hospitals in the San
Francisco area. More recently, Kyle worked at Mind
Springs in Grand Junction and took care of his mother,
Sally Porter, in Palisade.
Kyle had a love of music, especially heavy metal, and
played in a band in San Francisco as well as deejaying
as the “Iron Man” at KMSA at CMU for many years. He
had been working on lovingly restoring his purple 1974
Corvette and raising his German Shepherd, Keifer. In
addition to his mother, Kyle is survived by his siblings
John “Tod” Obergfell, Damon “Kreg” Obergfell
(Ruta), Sarina Obergfell, and Shauna Fjeld (Per). Kyle
especially loved his nieces and nephews as they allowed
him to be the big kid he still was. Arrangements by
