Catherine B. (Cathy) Davies, age 94, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2023, in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

Catherine B. Messner was born in Cleveland, Ohio on May 13, 1929. She attended East High School in Cleveland and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Miami University, Oxford, OH, majoring in Mathematics and Statistics.
Cathy was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Richard Roland (Dick) Davies, parents, Henry Charles and Meta Louise Messner, sister Louise (John) Novak, brothers Charles (Anatasia) Messner and Richard (Irene) Messner. She is survived by her sons Richard Davies, Chicago, IL, Robert (Joyce) Davies, Whitefish, MT, Jeffrey (Lisa) Davies, Hood River, OR, Ronald (Sue) Davies, Clark, CO and daughters, Christine (Gary) Painter, Clark, CO, and Barbara (Jay) Benda, Rockford, MI. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jaclyn Davies, Justin Davies, Hannah Davies, Tove Davies, Soren Davies, Dexter (Kelly) Benda, Sydney (Peyton Zeller-Av) Benda, Jeffrey Benda, Joseph Benda, Leo Davies, and Stella Davies.
Cathy was a loving, generous and devoted mother to six children and 11 grandchildren. She enjoyed golf, tennis, swimming, and both snow and water skiing. Her Tuesday ladies bridge club was a favorite pastime, along with playing board and card games with her grandchildren. She taught Sunday school at the United Methodist Church in Rockford, MI where she and Dick were members for over 50 years.
A talented seamstress and woodworker, Cathy loved doing all types of handwork including furniture making, sewing, painting, knitting and embroidery. Her creative talents were lovingly shared and passed down to her children and grandchildren. She instilled in her children a love of nature, books and reading. Cathy taught her family to always respond with love, treat people as you would like to be treated, always leave a place better than you found it, respect others and be grateful for the things you have; to laugh until you can’t breathe, have fun, work hard and always, always do your best.
A service will be held at a later date when the family can gather in Rockford, Michigan. In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests donations be made to Rockford United Methodist Church rockfordumc.org or NW Colorado Hospice northwestcoloradohealth.org.
