COLORADO SPRINGS — James Dean Aden died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday at home in Colorado Springs. He was 68.

Jim was born in Olden, Mo., on Dec. 14, 1938, to Walter and Grace Aden (Wagner) who both preceded him in death. His family moved to Colorado Springs in 1940.

Jim began his working life early, first at his dad’s coal and wood yard and then the family’s gas station. Jim graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1957 and served in the Air Force in Darmstadt, Germany, where he met his Irish wife, Deirdre (Hudson), who preceded him in death in 1991.

Following his return from military service, Jim settled in Moline, Ill. to work for John Deere and to start his family. Jim’s love of the mountains drew him back to Colorado, where he spent the remainder of his career designing and building custom homes in Colorado Springs and the Vail Valley.

Jim was a true craftsman capable of all aspects of design and building, which he handled personally through his company, Homecrafters.

Jim loved camping, hunting, fishing and four-wheeling with family and friends. Jim had enjoyed ocean fishing in Texas this spring where he proudly caught a shark. This fall hunting season he tried for his 30th elk.

Jim is survived by his children, Jim Aden, Deirdre Aden-Smith (husband Scott and son Finn), John Aden, Sean Aden and Heather Aden.

He is also survived by his sister, Betty Walker of Texas (husband Ken and sons Ken and Ron with their families); his cousin Joe Wagner and family; his uncles Bob Aden, Paul Wagner and Leroy Wagner with their families; and numerous loving cousins, nephews and nieces.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Blunt Mortuary, 2229 West Colorado Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80904.
