HILMA GRUNDEL DIED. Funeral services for Hilma GRUNDEL of Gypsum will be held Friday, October 5 in the Gypsum Lutheran Church. Reverend John MANN will officiate and burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery at Gypsum. Farnum Mortuary of Glenwood is in charge of arrangements.
Hilma Amelia GRUNDEL passed away at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Oct. 2 at 12:30 a.m. after a long illness. She was born July 14, 1886 at Leadville, a daughter of August William and Kate GRUNDEL. She came to Gypsum at the age of six weeks, her parents making the trip by horse and wagon, as the railroad was only built to Red Cliff. Her mother later cooked for the men building the railroad on to Glenwood. Hilma spent her entire life in Gypsum, living on the ranch of her parents until 1918 when she moved to the present home in Gypsum, keeping house for her father, uncle and brother.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Ladies, a faitherful member of Crater Rebekah Lodge 105 for 32 years, the Past Noble Grands Club, all of Gypsum. She was a member of the Gypsum Home Demonstration Club until illness prevented her attending. She was crowned Queen of Eagle County August 1961 at the Old Timers Reunion of Eagle County.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
Survivors are: a sister, Mrs. Edith M. DAVENPORT and one brother Bill, both of Gypsum; one niece, Mrs. Gussie BAKER and two nephews, Arthur and Fred DAVENPORT, and families and one nephew by marriage, Marion BAKER, all of Gypsum. Four cousins, Helmar and Susie LARSON of Gypsum, Mrs. Edith FENNO of Eagle and Mae BRADFORD of Denver, also survive.
Rebekah Crater Lodge No. 105, will conduct graveside services.
