Mrs. Bird HOCKETT, one of the earliest residents of the Gypsum area, died in Mountain View Nursing Home in Glenwood Springs March 9, 1971 at the age of 92 years.
Born December 20, 1878 in Edinburg, Pa., Bird Crawford came to the valley with her parents, as a small girl. She had lived in Gypsum 83 years.
In November, 1898, she married Addison L. HOCKETT, member of another pioneer county family. Mr. HOCKETT, a rancher, died in Gypsum in 1943.
Mrs. HOCKETT was a loyal worker in the Gypsum Methodist Church and in Crater Rebekah Lodge of Gypsum, and took a keen interest in community affairs.
Surviving are four daughters: Mrs. Jim (Myrtie) STEPHENS of Sweetwater; Mrs. William (Mary Margaret) ROBICHAUD, Sweetwater; Mrs. Tom (Arta) PHARO, Sacramento, Calif.; and Mrs Louis (Lucy) RONCHETTI, Sparks, Nev.; a brother Lowell CRAWFORD of Stockton, Calif.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends who wish, may make a memorial contribution to the Gypsum Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 12, at 2:00 o'clock in the Gypsum Methodist Church and burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Gypsum.
