Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday for Mrs. Joe Hurtgen, 74, Basalt resident 20 years who died at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs. Mrs. Hurtgen, the former Lillie H. Christensen, was born March 3, 1892 at Minden, Neb., and spent her childhood there. She married Joe [Joseph] Hurtgen on April 30, 1912 in Glenwood. The couple lived in Glenwood until 1926 and then moved to a ranch on the Fryingpan River where they lived until 1946. They moved to Basalt at that time. Mrs. Hurtgen was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and the Rebekah Lodge of Basalt. Survivors include her husband; a son, Joe Hurtgen III of Fraser; a daughter, Mrs. Nellie Carpenter of Las Vegas; four grandchildren.
