Former Gypsum resident Leila May NELSON and a past employee at the Eagle County Assessor's Office, died May 24 of natural causes in Grand Junction. She was 64.
She was born January 4, 1929 in Collbran to Charles E. and Inez M. (Potter) OGDEN. She spent her childhood in Collbran, where she also attended Collbran High School. She married Reuben NELSON on Dec. 18, 1948 in Grand Junction, and the couple lived in Gypsum from 1966 to 1982, and in Hotchkiss from 1982 to 1991, when they moved to Grand Junction. While in Gypsum she worked for the Eagle County Assessor's Office for eight years.
She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and enjoyed crocheting, flower gardening, fishing, music, reading and was an expert horse rider.
Survivors include: her husband, Reuben of Grand Junction;; daughters Iva M. OSBURN of Broomfield, Colo., Ruby F. WOLFE of Oklahoma City; Dena G. THOMPSON of Craig; one sister, Charlotte MAYS of Kimberling City, Mo., and granddaughters Lisa Ann and Jennifer May WOLFE. She was preceded in death by her brother.
A service of remembrance will be held May 28 at 1 p.m. at Martin Mortuary Chapel in Grand Junction, with Rev. Lloyd McMILLAN officiating. Burial will be at Russey Burlburt Cemetery in Parachute.
