FORMER ASSESSOR.
Nicholas E. Buckholz [sic., named spelled incorrectly throughout obituary], member of an early pioneer family of Eagle, passed away June 4 in Englewood, Colo.
A rosary vigil was said at St. Louis Parish in Englewood June 6 and a funeral Mass was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eagle June 7 with burial in the Sunset View Cemetery in Eagle.
Mr. BUCHHOLZ was born June 30, 1906, in Glenwood Springs, son of John and Mary Louise BUCHHOLZ. His early years were spent in Eagle and he graduated from South High School in Denver. He attended Colorado State University where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
Mr. BUCHHOLZ returned to Eagle, married Jeannette KILEY BUCHHOLZ in 1928 and became Eagle County assessor in 1932. He remained assessor until 1940 when he was employed by the Colorado State Tax Commission until he retired in 1972. From 1972 through 1975 he retained the position of director of appraisals of Summit County and maintained residency in Breckenridge. He and his wife then continued retirement in their present home.
He was an avid sportsman, particularly in basketball in which field he actively participated in the game, refereeing and coaching.
Mr. BUCHHOLZ is survived by his wife, Jeannette; three daughters Mary Lynn WINFREY, Englewood, Colo., JoAnn CRAMER, Denver, Jeannnette STOCKEL, Rockville, Md.; son John BUCHHOLZ, Scottsdale, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and one sister Beulah CANE of Englewood.
