Former Colorado State Patrol Lieutenant and Eagle resident, Leland Howard Acre, died May 4 at the Swedish Medical Center in Englewood. Acre, 59 at the time of his death, had been residing in Fort Morgan. Acre, born and raised in Fort Morgan, served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II before working as a funeral director, manager of the Fort Morgan Elk's Home and eventually a patrolman and later lieutenant in the Colorado State Patrol. Acre's latest occupation had been assistant to the president of the Dorchester Coal Company. Acre is survived by his wife, Althea; sons Howard, of Nashville, Tenn., Randy of Florence, Colo., Keven of Grand Junction and Mark, also of Grand Junction; a sister; a brother; and 10 grandchildren. Services were held May 7 at the United Methodist Church of Fort Morgan, with interment at Fort Morgan's Memory Garden Cemetery.
