HOWARD BAYER DIED AFTER LONG ILLNESS.
One of Minturn's most beloved residents died in Glenwood Sept. 16, after a lengthy illness which kept him hospitalized for many weeks.
Funeral services will be held for Howard G. BAYER Saturday afternoon, Sept. 21 at 2 o'clock in the Minturn Presbyterian church. The Reverend John PORTER will conduct the church service and Masonic Lodge 43 of Minturn will have a graveside service.
A carpenter and decorator by trade, Mr. BAYER's hobby was young people. The father of three children, he was never too busy to lead any activities that were connected with the young people of the Minturn community, chief of which was Mr. BAYER's work with the Boy Scouts. He was also leader in adult and youth church work.
Howard G. BAYER was born at Lower Meaghers Grant, Nova Scotia, August 23, 1885.
He came to Eagle county in 1917 and on June 20, 1918 was married to Miss Ethel BOIES of Red Cliff. For the past 32 years the BAYERs have lived in Minturn.
Mr. BAYER is Past Master of Lodge 43, AF & AM of Minturn, and a member of the Presbyterian church. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mary BALDO of Grants, New Mexico and one son, Ralph, of Pomona, Calif. A son, Garth, preceded his father in death August 9, 1957.
Also surviving are two brothers : Ralph and Guy BAYER of Elderbank, Nova Scotia; three sisters; Mrs. Hattie COY, Vancouver, British Columbia; Mrs. T. H. McKILLIP, Nakina, Ontario; Mrs. Laurie DICKIE, Lower Meagher Grant, Nova Scotia.
